Members of the Teachers Union of Ireland are to be balloted for strike action over the coming weeks.
18,000 teachers will be asked whether they support taking industrial action in a bid to end the profession's two-tier pay system.
The ballot of post-primary teachers will run from mid-September to early October.
TUI President Seamus Lahart believes the ballot will be well supported:
Lahart says "Teachers teach equality to their children, and I think the teaching profession would not stand for discrimination within the profession."
