A teenage boy has been found guilty of murdering a mother-of-two in Dublin.

The boy, who can’t be named because he’s underage, was convicted following what was a retrial before the Central Criminal Court.

At the time of her death, Urantsetseg Tserendorj (49) was living in Dublin with her husband and two young children, having moved to Ireland from Mongolia sixteen years beforehand.

She worked as a cleaner and on January 20th last year, while the country was in lockdown, she was on her way home to her family when the then 14yo boy attacked her between St George’s Dock and Custom House Quay in Dublin’s north inner city.

CCTV footage showed the moment she was stabbed. It didn’t seem serious initially but her condition quickly deteriorated and she died in hospital nine days later.

The now 16yo boy claimed he panicked during an attempted robbery and didn’t mean to hurt her. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter but was convicted today of murder following nine hours of jury deliberations.

A mandatory life sentence doesn’t apply when it comes to child murderers so he was remanded in custody ahead of his sentence hearing.

After the judge rose, he stormed back to the holding cells with two guards in tow. His sentence hearing is due to take place on December 21st.
