16 people have been killed after a torrential rainstorm caused flash flooding on the island of Sardinia.
Italy's civil protection chief says rivers have burst their banks and cars have been swept away.
One local mayor has described the storm as "apocalyptic" with water levels reaching 3 metres high in some places.
