150 women would die from breast cancer every year if screening was stopped, according to Breastcheck.

The message comes following a High Court judgement last week.

The Judge in the Ruth Morrisey case said testers need to have "absolute confidence" that there are no abnormalities before giving a slide the all clear.

There are concerns that the ruling could make it difficult to continue with cancer screening services.

The President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland says to account medical practise and particularly screening services to a standard of ‘Absolute confidence’ is a significant concern.

Prof Mary Horgan has called for full support for the screening services.

The Professor says more than 50,000 high grade precancerous lesions have been detected and treated since the CervicalCheck Programme.
