126 Children With Special Educational Needs Waiting For School Place
There are 126 children with special educational needs waiting for a school place for this year.
A report from the Ombudsman for Children found the forward planning of school places for children with special educational needs hasn't improved as hoped.
The updated 'Plan for Places' report was launched today, two years on from its first publication of recommendations.
Ombudsman for Children Dr. Niall Muldoon says urgent action is needed to provide for these children:
"The only figure that we could see that was predictable or that they've predicted is that we needed four new special classes in every post primary school in the country.
"That's 2, 800 by 2027.
"So even to make that happen, we need to be digging, building, planning, recruiting, staffing, all those places now, you know, and that's assuming every school takes up four classes."
