As the new Dail term gets underway, TD's will now be able to count their calories when they dine in the Dail restaurant.
Fine Gael Cork South Central Deputy Jerry Buttimer, says the introduction of calorie counting in the Dáil restaurant will enable TDs, Senators and Leinster House staff to make more informed decisions about what they are eating.
A recent survey by the Food Safety Authority has shown that as many as 95% of consumers in Ireland want to see calorie counting included on menus.
Deputy Buttimer said it's no secret that the life of a public representative can lead to unhealthy dietary choices which lead to unwanted weight gain.
He also said more deputies should use the Dail gym.
