R Kelly fans were left furious last weekend after they waited at Louisiana's Monroe Civic Centre until 1am for what turned out to be an impersonator, performing in his place. He was due to perform at the lauch party for his new album called.....wait for it.... Black Panties (ugh that must be one of the worst album names ever).
A man who appeared to be the singer took to the stage three hours after the show's advertised time and was booed off not long after he begun his four-minute performance. It was quickly noticed that he was not R Kelly, with some reports from the gig claiming that the man on stage lip-syncing may have been a tribute act named R Jelly - (now that's a good name!)
With some concertgoers allegedly paying up to $150 (eejits) for what they thought was going to be a full performance, the event promoter Cedric Johnson was left to deal with the backlash from the hundreds of disappointed punters. "I'm so sorry. I got Dooped," Johnson texted to local TV news station KNOE News. "I will be refunding half of your Money Back … A statement will be given on today as to what accutally [sic] happened at the party."
While a full statement has yet to be given from the promoter about the dodgy show, a representative for R Kelly yesterday said that the singer had appeared at the venue, but also stated that this event was billed as an "appearance" rather than a full concert. Oh that's ok then!
What else would you expect from R Kelly though.....
