1991
"Alive" propelled Pearl Jam straight into the big time as grunge front runners, and their album "Ten" became a phenomenon helping to revitalise "alternative rock" and inject it into the mainstream. "Ten" has sold over 10 million copies.
Sell Out
Kurt Cobain accused them of "selling out" something Pearl Jam have worked hard to live down ever since - the band deliberately eschewed music video and sought to break away from the fame machine. "Alive" was notable for it's anthemic chorus and extended Hendrix flavoured guitar solo by Mike McCready - much of the album featured themes of a Freudian and Oedipal nature.
Vs
The follow up album "V"s was definitely a better record with a leaner mix and a harder sound. Now 4 years after 2009's "Backspacer" and around 20 years later Pearl Jam have a new single "Mind Your Manners".
Mind Your Manners
"Mind your Manners" is the first single opener from their tenth studio album "Lighning Bolt" due in October. "Mind Your Manners" is a tight, vicious single with a ridiculous guitar break and flavours of Motorhead's classic Ace of Spades.
