Fresh from finishing the new Boyzone album in London, Keith popped in for a chat with Ray this morning.
Chatting about the upcoming release, Keith admitted that he loves the new music: “I just think that this stuff is credible, it’s cool and thank God we still have a great fan base”. He also admitted that, “It’s the first time we’ve released music that I actually like!”
Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of Stephen Gateley’s death and Keith revealed that the boyz (minus Ronan) spent the day in studio, storytelling and reminiscing.
They are looking forward to the new tour although Keith is apprehensive about kicking off in Dublin: “usually we’ll have 20 gigs done by the time we get to Dublin and I’m half alright by that stage, you know what the press are like in this country!” He also revealed that they’ll have to keep an eye on their male children this year after they were found hanging around watching the dancers’ dress changes last time: “we’ll have to make sure that that doesn’t happen this time round!”
He wouldn’t say whether he’d be returning to Corrie, telling Ray: “Never say never because it bites you in the arse”. He also spoke about the burdens of having a celebrity face in that some casting directors don’t want to meet you.
Keith also chatted at length about the work he does for autism and about his daughter Mia’s struggles. He also spoke about the challenges against autism and made a plea to the government not to touch the budget for disability: “don’t take from it, you’ve already taken from it, don’t take any more. Ring-fence it, leave us with what we have at the moment and let us continue on our struggle”.
