Johnny Borrell, the frontman from former UK faux-Strokes rock outfit Razorlight released his first solo album last week with the aid of luminary producer Trevor Horn and French flavoured band Zazou.
Recorded on four-track and imaginatively entitled "Borrell 1" the single "Pan European Supermodel Song (Oh! Gina)" sounds like a loose Dexys Midnight Runners hungover at the Happy Days Diner.
The lead instruments are piano and sax - there is a distinct lack of indie guitar strumming - it's a far cry from the Razorlight of yore.
'Borrell 1' failed to make it into the top 100 on the Official Album Chart selling only 594 copies in its first week on sale.
In contrast X Factor contestant Jahmene Douglas (WHO?) reached the Number One slot with an unoriginal debut album of covers selling 19,000 copies. Oh the shame.
