1. The Cure - A Forest (Original 12" version)
First in our somewhat unscientific list of the best 12" 80s songs, The Cure - A Forest. Guaranteed to get even the most morose of dancefloor dodgers tapping their toes.
2. Soft Cell - Tainted Love (12" version)
There isn't much to say about this other than it could not be omitted, and as such earns it place on the list of the greatest 80's songs of all time. Not even Marc Almond's slightly off-key vocals can keep this one down.
3. Tom Tom Club - Wordy Rappinghood
The song no one can believe they haven't heard before when they hear it for the first time. We double dare you to not feel like dancing when this comes on. Turn. It. Up.
4. Grace Jones - Pull Up To The Bumper (12" mix)
Is there anyone in the world cooler than Grace Jones? Completely unique, slightly crazy, strangely alluring and all round cooler (or coolie depending where you are from). It doesn't matter...Grace trancends cool, so just press play.
5. Heaven 17 - Penthouse And Pavement (12" Extended Version)
Saving possibly the best until last, who can deny Heaven 17 a place with their classic Penthouse and Pavement, a charity shop record bin regular, and nugget of a find when you find one. Expect to pay the princely sum of about €2 for a copy now. Well worth it.
