30 years ago today one of the finest voices ever to grace the Irish music scene passed away. Mr. Luke Kelly, founder member of legendary traditional group The Dubliners, made his mark by recording the definitive version of many songs including 'Raglan Road', 'Scorn Not His Simplicity', 'Song For Ireland' and 'The Auld Triangle' to name but a few.
Aged 43 when he died on 30th January 1984, he left an indelible mark on the Irish music scene. His gravestone in Glasnevin Cemetery simply reads 'Luke Kelly - Dubliner'.
A special gig will take place tonight in Vicar St to mark the anniversary of his passing.
