A plan by the government to address the issue of drivers accessing Twitter, Facebook and Whatsapp has been dropped from legislation currently going before the Dail and Seanad. A spokesman for Transport minister Paschal Donohoe said that time constraints mean that the proposals had been set aside. However, it will still be an offence to text while driving. Drivers could also be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention.
