Rape can be a very difficult subject to talk about, but a new two-part documentary on TV3 is exploring the issue, featuring the personal stories of four different women.
Unbreakable airs tonight at 10pm and director Pamela Drynan explained why she decided to make the programme:.
"It was becoming very obvious that people wanted to talk about it. We decided we were going to profile survivors and ask them to tell us exactly what it was like to experience such violence and the journey from that traumatic event to recovery."
"I think the real emphasis was looking at what happens after something like that happens to you."
The four women who took part each had very different stories, but the after-effects they experienced were similar.
Winnie Li told us about her own recovery from rape and why she decided to take part in the documentary: "It took five years for me to recover from the trauma and put my life back together. In the aftermath I started to realise how fundamentally impactful these events are and how prevalent they are."
She explained that, while everyone's recovery is different, being able to talk about the trauma with someone you trust can be helpful.
"You recover with the support of others. It's quite difficult unless you can tell that story to another person."
