On July 1, London enjoyed its hottest July day ever. In Ireland, however, it was a little bit dull. That continues a pattern over the years whereby we seem to miss out on some of the spectacular sunshine enjoyed by our nearest neighbours. John Sweeney, professor of geography at Maynooth University, and Ireland's leading expert in climate science, explains why while from London, Joe O'Shea explains that all that sunshine isn't what it's cracked up to be.
