Earlier this month we did a special feature on apprenticeships which received loads of reaction.
Today the government launched its National Skills Strategy 2025, which includes a plan to provide 50,000 apprenticeships.
The plan includes:
- Increasing the legal age of school leavers
- addressing cuts to guidance councillors
- A commitment to provide 50,000 modern apprenticeship and traineeship places to 2020
- A new National Skills Council to oversee research, forecasting and prioritisation of skills needs in the economy
Mary-Liz Trant, executive director for skills development with Solas and Tony Donohoe Head of Education and Social Policy, Irish Business and Employers Confederation explain why we need more apprentices.
