Bob Geldof has made the news today for handing back his Freedom of the City of Dublin in protest against Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who also holds the award.
Geldof objects to sharing the honour with Suu Kyi due to her treatment of Myanmar's Rohingya Muslim population.
Was he right to hand it back?
Councillor Mannix Flynn believes so, and also feels Aung San Suu Kyi should have the honour taken away as she "didn't continue the work she was given the award for."
"Geldof felt uncomfortable and in a moral and ethical difficulty. I would certainly support him."
Lord Mayor of Dublin Mícheál MacDonncha says he can understand why Geldof has done it, but wonders whether he should retain his honorary knighthood.
"He is making an issue of a civic honour because Aung San Suu Kyi also received it, and that's his perogative, but he did receive an honour directly from the British government, which historically carried out horrendous acts, so he's inconsistent."
