Ireland's First Alcohol-Free Bar Opens It's Doors
It’s Friday thank God!! And a lot of you will be planning a night out hitting the bars and a club or a few scoops in the proposed sunshine.
What if you don’t fancy an alcoholic drink or just don't fancy getting pinned in by crowds on the sauce? You still want to have the craic and atmosphere of a pub but without the booze.
Whatever it is – you have very little alternative…until now.
It's called 'The Virgin Mary' and opens this weekend. Muireann spoke to co-owner Oisin Davis about why Ireland needs this now.
Oisin is opening it because there’s very little alternative for non-drinkers or people who just don’t fancy an alcoholic pint just cafés lacking atmosphere.
"I spoke to friends who don't drink but wanted somewhere with the atmosphere of a pub but without the booze. People have been really encouraging. You can't get the same pub type atmosphere in a multi-national cafe."
He himself drinks but he spoke to friends who don’t and they inspired him and this stat: according to the World Health Organization (WHO) alcohol consumption in Ireland has fallen by 25% since 2005.
You'll find it on Capel Street in Dublin 1.
It even has it's own signature cocktail...
