The subject of sexual harassment of women has been in the news a lot lately, but what about men who are harassed? Are there double standards involved?
Today FM's Fergal D'Arcy has had first-hand experience of harassment from his DJ work in nightclubs and says it happens all the time: "On any given night you will get groped."
"Society's view is that if you're a man and you're sexually assaulted by a woman, you're meant to sit back and enjoy it, not speak up about it. If you speak up, you're in the wrong. There is a double standard all across the board."
Alan O'Neill of the Men's Development Network agrees: "Whatever way we're brought up and conditioned, it's not considered acceptable for men to express sensitivity or vulnerability. We're expected to want or enjoy every bit of female sexual attention we get."
"Parents have to allow the space for boys to express discomfort at an early age and not be told to man up."
