As Ireland's housing crisis continues to deepen, a new documentary looks at the problem and how to fix it.
Ireland's Housing Crisis airs on TV3 tonight at 9pm. Presenter Sarah McInerney explained that there are many people facing the possibility of becoming homeless due to sudden changes in their circumstances.
"What really struck me is how many people are on the edge. They have jobs, they're surviving, they're paying their rent, and yet they're just one step from falling through the cracks."
"All it takes is for their landlord to decide they're evicting them or that they're having the house repossessed, for them to lose their job or for their marriage to break down."
Sarah says it has taken the government six years to come around to the fact that they need to intervene.
"There has been a woeful lack of urgency from this government over the last few years, and it's like they've only just woken up to it."
Brendan Ogle, who is also involved in the documentary, added, "There's a political and ideological problem. The politicians need to start calling it an emergency."
"This is affecting every family in the state - you may not be homeless, but you know somebody who is. It's as if we don't know how to fix this, when the answer is to address the supply issue."
