Georgie Crawford, Entertainment Editor at Spin 1038, gave birth to her baby daughter nine months ago.
Seven weeks ago today, she discovered a lump in her breast, and has subsequently been diagnosed with breast cancer aged 32.
Georgie spoke to Susan Keogh about coping with her diagnosis and how things are going. She says there's "still an element of shock."
After a visit to her GP, Georgie was sent for a scan. This happened just two weeks before she was due to go back to work.
She then had a mammogram, followed by a biopsy, and says she knew by the doctor's face that there was something wrong.
"Every time I went to that dark place I was pulled out of it by my family. That kind of kept me going, but I knew in the back of my head that I had breast cancer."
"I was trying to get my head around it before someone said the words, and I wanted to be strong for everyone else because I didn't want them to worry about me."
Georgie speaks very highly of the care she has received at Beaumont Hospital. She has had surgery, which went really well, and will start 20 weeks of chemotherapy in December.
She also spoke about the effect treatment could have on her fertility, and how she is preparing for this by having embryos frozen.
She now wants to make sure other people have regular breast checks and smear tests.
"You ask yourself, why has this happened to me, and what is it for if you don't tell your story? This has happened for a reason and I'm going to encourage young people to check their breasts. I think making the phone call is the toughest thing."
"If I put it on one person's radar, that's what's getting me through this at the moment."
