Maureen O'Sullivan says hare coursing is barbaric and is quite clearly a legal form of animal cruelty.
However, DJ Histon CEO of the Irish Coursing Club says Deputy O’Sullivan’s bill would do huge damage to the sport of hare coursing if it was passed, making an enjoyable and popular and harmless pursuit suddenly illegal and more importantly it would have a devastating impact on the number of hares in the country.
DJ says several surveys, including one in 2010 from Queens University Belfast, show that there are 18 times more hares in areas which are regularly coursed.
