The credibility of the Citizen's Assembly is being questioned after a member was allegedly expressing pro-choice on social media.
The Pro-Life Campaign made this allegation which is threatening to undermine the integrity of the Assembly.
The Assembly is a body of 99 citizens, chosen to be broadly representative of the State’s population, which will meet to discuss a limited number of key issues in the Constitution.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy is chairing the assembly and said at the weekend she is investigating the claim.
Ms Laffoy warned the body’s integrity could be undermined if the allegation proved to be true.
Ms Laffoy told the assembly abortion is the particularly sensitive and contentious issue before them and pledged that openness will be an underlying feature of their work on all five of the topics they will discuss over the coming year
The first issue which the assembly will examine is whether the 1983 amendment to the Constitution on abortion should be repealed.
Other issues that they will discuss include: how best to respond to the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population; fixed-term parliaments; the manner in which referendums are held and how the State can make Ireland a leader in tackling climate change.
Colm O'Gorman, head of Amnesty International and Cora Sherlock, deputy chair of the Pro-Life Campaign joined Matt to discuss the issue of neutrality of members in the assembly.
Cora made some allegations of media bias on the issue of abortion, which didn't sit too well with Matt.
