We've all been told about the importance of wearing protective gear when cycling, but not everyone adheres to this advice.
However, it could soon be made illegal for cyclists not to wear helmets. Should this be the case?
We spoke to Dr. Damien O'Tuama of Cyclist.ie and Donnacha Whelan, National Services Manager of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, who each had different views on the issue.
"I think it's a ridiculous idea because it's missing the point," says Damien. "The actual road environment is not conducive to safe cycling, and putting a helmet into the mix is not solving the root of the problem."
Donnacha disagrees: "It's purely a safety issue. I see the consequences of head injuries on a day to day basis, and anything that's going to reduce that risk, I would support."
