As part of our Dare To Care campaign, we met a woman who has had two children diagnosed with the same type of leukaemia.
Noreen Doyle's eight-year-old daughter Kate has been undergoing chemotherapy since the end of April. She says there are "ups and downs, good days and bad days, but she's doing really well."
This is something Noreen has been through before with her son, now aged twelve.
"When my son was two, he was diagnosed with exactly the same leukaemia and it took him almost four and a half years to go through his treatment."
"Cancer is a horrible thing, and to have a child with it is an awful scenario. You deal with it whatever way you can."
Despite the difficulties, Noreen is positive about the future. Kate is expected to be in remission by the middle of October, "and she should be able to return to a normal child's life."
"The prognosis for children with this type of leukaemia is over 90% these days. The treatment is incredible."
"Because she's very vocal, she was able to communicate about things like pain, so it's not been as horrendous as I might have anticipated. If she's not feeling particularly well we try to organise something that will make her happy, because when she looks back on this I want her to remember nicer things."
