Mixed Martial Arts is in the news again after the Irish Martial Arts Commission described it as pornographic and voyeuristic and compared it to dogfighting.
In a strongly worded submission to the International Olympic Committee, the Irish Martial Arts Commission has said it has no interest in regulating the sport of Mixed Martial Arts in Ireland. In fact, says the IMAC, MMA should not be described as a sport at all.
Like dogfighting, MMA should not be legitimised, the IMAC said, agreeing with previous descriptions of mixed martial arts as voyeuristic, sadistic and pornographic.
Unsurprisingly, fans of MMA have taken exception. ON The Last Word on Monday, Andrew McGahon from severemma.com debated the issue with journalist and broadcaster Tom McGuirk.
