Have you ever thought that your phone might be listening to your conversations?
Some people believe this is the case.
Designer and technologist Youssef Sarhan explained why he has his suspicions: "A friend messaged me to say she had got an ad about cough syrup after having a conversation with her friend in her car. She had never Googled or searched for the word."
"I thought maybe lots of people are experiencing this phenomenon, and I decided to start documenting it on Twitter. Over the last year I've had a lot of people reach out and say this is happening to them too."
Is this really possible? Solicitor Simon McGarr thinks so.
"We know it can be done. In the United States, Facebook has a feature where a microphone listens to ambient sound in the room to help you discuss the things you might be listening to or watching."
Simon also says there are legal issues surrounding this kind of technological invasion of people's privacy.
"This is going to be a major problem. It would currently be illegal if we were placed under surveillance without knowing it. There would also be extremely heavy fines for breaches of data protection laws."
