Do you drink at home with your friends before going out for the evening? If so, you're definitely not alone.
A new international survey, published in the Drug and Alcohol Review journal, has shown that Ireland is the biggest nation of 'pre-drinkers' in Europe. A huge 85 per cent of Irish people pre-drink, while almost half of those surveyed have indicated that they drink heavily.
Is this simply a normal part of our culture, or is it something more serious?
Aoife Barry of thejournal.ie spoke to Matt about how our drinking has become a cultural problem, but that "for a lot of people in Ireland, it's seen as normal."
Ronan Lynch, owner of the Swan bar in York Street, also told us about how pre-drinking is affecting the pub trade. He feels that, over the past decade, pubs can no longer compete with the likes of supermarkets.
