Should primary school children be doing homework? Is it a necessary part of the learning process, or is it just too stressful?
Eric Nolan, local area representative for the Labour Party in Dublin North-East, feels that changes need to be made because of how much time homework can take up and the stress it places on younger children and parents.
He also believes there's "no correlation" between homework and grades at primary school level: "I don't think years of doing homework makes you better at it when you go into secondary school."
Maria Byrne of Fine Gael, however, thinks that "homework has an important place."
"We have to get children into a learning environment at a young age, and it stands to them later on."
"If they were to go through eight years without any homework, I would be concerned that children would not be in the mood for learning."
