The much-anticipated new novel by Harper Lee, Go Set a Watchman, has gone on sale around the world.
Many bookshops remained open all night to cope with demand.
The book is set 20 years after the events of Lee's 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
The discovery of the novel was announced in February and hailed as the literary sensation of the decade.
One of the revelations in the new book is that the much-loved character of Atticus Finch is painted a racist "bigot".
