More than 3 million copies of his novels have been sold in Norway, and his work has been translated into over 40 languages, selling 23 million copies (2014).

Nesbø is primarily known for his crime novels about Inspector Harry Hole.

Many of his books have been adapted for the big screen:

Warner Brothers bought Blood on Snow this year, with rumours of Leonardo DiCaprio being lined up to star as the hitman who goes into hiding

Headhunters was made into a BAFTA-nominated film and is now the highest-grossing Norwegian film of all time. Mark Wahlberg has said in interviews he wants to remake Headhunters.

Other Hollywood versions rumoured to be in the pipeline include The Son and The Snowman - Channing Tatum is already rumoured to be in talks for lead in The Son.
