There’s an array of trackers, watches and apps available – and there’s also a swathe of apps to get you off the couch and on your way, supposedly, to a lithe new you.
What’s good? And, do they work?
Trackers:
One company caught the imagination of the public over the last couple of years, Fitbit, and they’ve popularised the fitness tracker as a consumer device, and not just fancy tech for high-performance athletes.
So what does it do?
The basic tracker usually measures your steps, your activity, your calorie burn and your sleep.
If you get a fancy tracker with GPS, you get a different perspective on your exercise, as it can figure out the distances more accurately and also the hills climbed.
Fitbit, Apple Watch and Garmin are all very strong in that sector, with Garmin essentially reinventing themselves as a fitness company and focusing on the more serious hobby athlete.
