The side of the bed
It is not something that we really think about, it just kind of happens.
From a young age we discover what side of the bed we like to sleep on.
We make the decision based on if we want to sleep by the door or the window, or if we simply like to sleep on a our right or left shoulder.
Of course when you meet that special someone you can only pray that they like to sleep on the opposite side of the bed to you.
If not, time and consideration must be taken to decide who will sleep on what side.
Chaos
However, this is not the case for Dublin man Steve O'Rourke and his partner.
Steve recently shared with his co-workers that he and his other half just sleep on random sides of the bed.
As a result his friends could not get their heads around the revelation.
And we can understand.
We were just chatting in work and apparently it's weird that Amy and I don't sleep on the same side of the bed every night. Some nights I like to sleep by the window, some nights the door. It's not really that unusual, is it?

But what about the pillows?
Finally, the response caused a debate about various sleeping and bed etiquette.
But first Steve laid out just how things go down before bedtime.
Feel like I need to point out the following:
1. First one in chooses
2. We've never disagreed over it
3. We move pillows and books as we move
4. We don't change every single night
5. Neither of us are aliens— Steve O'Rourke (@steveohrourke) March 24, 2019
But then the rational people told Steve how things should be.
How have you found someone else to share a bed with who is also happy with these shenanigans?? The only reason I’m still with my husband is because I fear a future partner might want my side of the bed.

Well.. Its just.. I don't.. You have a side of the bed, and that's your side of the bed, and they have theirs. And that's that. It's a bit like saying, "I think I'll go sleep in the neighbors house tonight"..

My head is broke from this. I have my side of the bed even in hotels x

But how else could anyone sleep IN A STRANGE BED without sleeping on their own side??

My boyfriend and I have come on holiday and I accidentally put my stuff on the wrong side of the bed... thought we’d give it a go but already elbowed each other in the face twice. Swapped back this morning - it’s just wrong.

Do you not have books, or a glass, or a phone charger on a bedside table?
Or do you just swap the entire contents of your bedside table each night?
Like a monster?

I've just rolled over to my partner's side to see how it feels. I'm now back on my side of the bed writing this and wondering how you function with this kind of madness in your life.

Pure madness!
