Diarmuid McCleary is on a mission – to hitchhike to every county in Ireland. All 32.
Simple enough?
Not when you’ve a massive microwave under your arm!
He told Muireann all about his micro mission:
Diarmuid is carrying the kitchen appliance with him as he aims to visit every single county. It's all in a bid to raise money for mental health charity Jigsaw, who provides counselling and support for young people and their mental health. You can donate to the cause here.
Diarmuid hopes to take in around three counties a day and is setting off from Ballinasloe in County Galway at around 1pm today.
Today, he’s taking in Galway, Mayo and Sligo and has a place to stay in Sligo while tomorrow, he aims to visit Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal.
He’s calling on Today FM listeners to keep an eye out for him over the weekend, give him a lift and of possible, offer him a roof over his head over the few days. You can also donate to his cause over on his Facebook page.
But why the microwave?
Simply - for the craic! Diarmuid says the broken microwave has been sitting in the Students’ Union office for two months and he thought it would be a good way to generate awareness about the hitch-hike and thus, raise more money for Jigsaw.
