According to some newspaper reports, a glass of tap water with your lunch or dinner in a restaurant will soon cost €1. Expected increases in rates and water charges next year may inevitably lead to a tap water charge in some restaurants. According to Adrian Cummins, ceo of the Restaurant Association of Ireland,a charge on on tap water is an "only fair" response to increased commercial water rates. Not all restaurants will be introduce the charge, he says, but many certainly will. "Some will say they'll provide filtered water at a charge of €1 for a bottle, and that's it - customers can have as much water as they want throughout the night."
