One of the most fascinating threads I've ever come across on Twitter came from a chap called Aidan Mohar who asked this question:
Tell me a story about yourself the sounds like a lie but is absolutely true.

The replies are amazing. Spectacular! My favourite reply came from an actress called Maddie Corman who revealed:
I booked an episode of #Friends ... did the table read and rehearsed the whole week and filmed in front of the studio audience and then my part was re-shot with Julia Roberts playing me. https://t.co/JVlpxLfpRH

AND:
Also— Julia R was IN the audience when we filmed the show... on reflection, the whole thing is pretty bananas. https://t.co/eNqysMnHnM

And the listeners of The Early Breakfast did not disappoint with their own stories that SOUND like lies... but they're true:
- “I'm one of the first ever if quadruplets born in Ireland. Made TV shows and newspapers for years. Ps just google Dean David Mark Lisa Sills for proof!”
- “Hi Paula, my story is.... I went on the beer with Kiefer Sutherland in Dublin about 25 years ago!” - Larry from Waterford
- “Here’s my story that sounds like a lie but was actually true. A couple of years ago at the independence music festival I was in a portaloos and it got pushed over with me in it. I had to wear a ‘hazmat looking’ suit and carry around a bio hazard bag with my clothes in for the rest of the night! From Mary in cork who is up for swimming training, loving the show!”
- “Hi Paula I met bill Clinton about 30 minutes before the planes crashed in to the twin towers on 9/11. He was talking to a small group of us in a pub in Australia. Next thing one of his security got a call and whisked him away”
- Good Morning Paula. I have a couple of things that sound like a lie but are actually true. The ones that come to mind at the moment are: 6 countries and 2 continents in one day - Started in Johannesburg just after midnight to Frankfurt 11;30 to Ireland 14:00. Then flew out to Biarritz from Ireland 18;00 via Heathrow 19:00 arriving 21:30 then drove across the border to Spain. Also ordered a Big Mac as room service in the Royal Viking hotel in Stockholm. There was a McDonald's across the road where they got it and sent it up. It appears as room service on the bill.” - Vince
- “I once boarded a flight to Australia the day before my birthday and landed in Australia the day after my birthday”
- “I started college at 17 and a friend found an ID of a fella over 18 who looked just like me. I used it for months. Then I went to a club and a bouncer starting asking me what’s my address and birthday and all that. I finally said “look it’s me” and he replied “no dude, it’s ME”. It was!”
- “Strange but true stories...I once opened a packet of bacon fries for Jim McCann's dog in a pub in Ballinteer in Dublin about 25 years ago!” - Michael in Wicklow
- “I once picked up the landline phone to call my friend and he was just magically on the other end of the line the instant I picked up the receiver.”
- “Good morning Paula. I too share a birthday with my siblings, my twin brother and I were born on our eldest sibling’s 8th birthday and there were 8 of us under the age of 8 (including 2 sets of twins) a good Irish Catholic family!” - Linda in Dublin
