Some of the listeners of The Early Breakfast got in touch about their feelings on this, and with their own memories of Christmas presents:
- “When I was younger I was obsessed with the Spice Girls and Santa gave me a poster of them one year for Christmas. When I was off to college my mam was packing up my room and was trying to get my poster down and she ripped it. Broke my heart!! Still can’t find that exact poster online or on ebay!”
- “Paula a GameBoy was the greatest present ever. Played it so much over Christmas - my parents had to confiscate it when we were going back to school. Obsessed!”
- “Paula, got a tractor from Santa when I was 8. The best Christmas of my life, I drove that thing everywhere!”
- “Paula my little man who is 4 has made his list for Santa. He wants a kite, a football and a cereal bar!!1 (he’s not allowed to have those) – hope Santa’s feeling generous!”
- “Paula, when you think about it, it’s not actually that long to Christmas… Santa Claus kinda needs to know how much stock to make, and have a rough idea of what everyone needs/wants. In our house, Santa normally goes with something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read!”
- “For the past 3 years in our house, Lego is top of list. Santa always delivers!”
- “Paula my 5 year old son has asked Santa for a time machine. Best of luck with that one Santa...!”
- “Always loved adding a surprise to the end of the letter to Santa, Paula. And my surprise was always the Guinness Book of Records!”
- “Hi Paula. Both our parents are very much sports-driven and, growing up in South Africa just made it worse. My brother and myself would've usually got sports gear for Christmas. We got everything from golf clubs to a dart board. We even got a pair of boxing gloves one year. Only one pair though so, had to alternate between left and right hands when we punched each other. When I was 9, I got a toy car for Christmas. Wasn't radio controlled though. You just put batteries in, flicked a switch and, it did random tricks. I obviously got other toys but, that was the first one I remember. I'm 39 now, with two gorgeous girls of my own. I still have my little car though!”
