One in 5 of us wears sunglasses not to shield our eyes from UV rays but because we think they look sexy. I reckon there will be a lot of things we wear now, that when we look back in the future we will die.
Those HD eyebrows some girls have? You know the ones that look like 2 slugs going across their foreheads? I mean, they don't look good now - they'll never be remembered fondly in photos.
In the 90's I used to wear giant fake dummies as necklaces, or weaved in between my shoelaces. Utterly pointless, but I thought they looked good and that's all that mattered. Ahem.
Loads of "pointless fashion" below - any more to add?!
- “Paula, I was a big fan of AHA in the 80s and as a result used to wear the leather straps wrapped around my wrists!”
- “Hello again, my favorite footwear ever was my purple/pink desert boots which left a lovely circle on the white knee socks. Rebelled against the school uniform!” - Grainne
- “What about the plebs who only wear sun glass on their heads in all weather? I know a few. And when you reach 60 you buy jumpers but not to wear. Oh no, you drape them over your shoulder!”
- “Paula - in the mid 80s I wore a pair of plastic drop Wham earrings - one ear was Andrew Ridgley and the other George Michael. I thought I was fab – and believe me, that was one of my better fashion choices!” - Aoife, Marino
- “16-hole Doc Marten boots, laces tied half way down and combats tucked in. A Metallica t-shirt, a bandana wrapped around each wrist, long hair...it was tragic! Call the fashion police!” – DezH79 via Snapchat
- “Paula I had braces in the early 00s at age of 12 with the colourful elastic band as decoration! I’m from Wexford and got the county colours once when they were playing in Croker which I thought was a great idea – but Wexford lost and I had to wear them for 8 weeks!” - Jojomohobo via Snapchat
- “SweetP, when I was a nipper I used to wear my mother’s over the shoulder boulder holder on my head thinking I was a pilot. I could fit my head in one cup and use the second one as my oxygen mask!” – Scanman
- “Morning Paula, I think 10+ years from now, people will be texting in to say HD eyebrows and fake glasses were pointless - suddenly its considered cool to be blind!”
- “Paula, in the nineties, I went to school with my brother’s jeans on backwards, just like Kris Kross! What's worse is no one in my school knew who they were - so I looked even more of a tool!” - Michelle
- “Morning, the must-have craze in the mid 70s were jeans called loons, a tight top and HUGE bell bottoms. They came in awful gaudy colours like red, blue, green or yellow - I had green ones! Blush!” - Mike
- “Skirts over pants. Why?! I blame B*Witched for that. Awful and and just looked so bulky. Pick one or the other!”
- “Pedal pushers Paula...I actually still love pedal pushers as much as I did back them. I love cropped pants. Maybe it’s because I’m short, it means I’m not stepping all over myself!”
- “Baggy shorts that went down to our shins, leaving a useless amount of leg exposed. Pointless!”
- “Runners with heels!”
- "Jeans with the waistband cut off so that the zip was the only way to keep them up. Britney Spears has a lot to answer for!"
- “Morning Paula. I have plenty jeans with no button to keep them up. So I just stick a bale twine around my waist to keep some of my dignity. #howcoolami!”
- Hi Paula, I was tagged in a pic on Facebook a few years ago. It was taken in a youth club when i was 13 (in the 80's). I was wearing football shorts outside a grey tracksuit. I have never ever seen my kids laugh so much when they saw it!" - Andy, Galway
- "Hi Paula, when I was about 12 many moons ago now, I used to wear ONE fingerless glove in school. I got some stick for that!" - Mick in Waterford
- "Hi Paula, those stupid, pointless tracksuit bottoms with the buttons down the side - they let the breeze in!" - Rob via Snapchat
- Morning Paula, dug this one out for you! Oh lord in the 1970's cheesecloth shirts were in fact, cool, however Abba belts around them was not! So bad Paula! I keep them now for my nieces as a threat that if they are not nice to me I will leave this to them in my will. Stuff memories are made, I had many a happy occasion wearing this shirt. Love the show it's so random, love that!” - Pamela
