However, people strongly believe Saoirse Ronan was unfairly denied an Oscar nomination for her role in Mary Queen of Scots.
According to research carried out by Now TV, 44% of those surveyed think the Carlow native should have been nominated for her portrayal of Mary Stuart.
Saoirse has been nominated for three Oscars over the course of her career for Ladybird (2018), Brooklyn (2016) and Atonement (2008).
The research by the online streaming service also found that A Star Is Born is Ireland's top pick for Oscar glory, with 31% saying they want the film to win Best Picture.
39% of those asked think Lady Gaga deserves the Best Actress award while 32% want Bradley Cooper to scoop Best Actor.
And while the Oscars will be without a host for the first time in 30 years, if it were up to the Irish Graham Norton would host the esteemed ceremony.
Other people we'd like to see host the show include Ellen DeGeneres, Whoopi Goldberg , Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.
