As a massive fan of horror films, I’m delighted that the remake of Stephen King’s IT looks as creepy and as terrifying as I’d hoped. What I hadn’t realised though; is that it’s officially a 2-part film, which surprised some of the listeners of The Early Breakfast too;

“Whaaaaaat? IT is a two part film? What a way to ruin it from the original!”

Well, not quite. Stephen King himself has said that officially, this film is just the first part;

So it sounds like the fate of the second part of It rests on the success of the first. Producer Dan Lin has said:

"Naturally that's the plan. If you look at the book, it's the part of the book that we have not yet explored.”

Anyway, scary clown films aside, what are the most terrifying films out there?

  • "Paula, I'm with you on this. Almost impossible to get a good horror these days, I am looking forward to it though, hopefully it delivers! PS - if you're really stuck I'll go with you!” - Brendan

  • “Morning Paula! I haven't had a good scare in ages but the first IT scared me when I was younger, and The Poltergeist freaked me out recently! Myself and my two sisters are going in on Saturday to watch IT so you’re more than welcome! Liffey Valley!” - Dave

  • “Hi Paula - the Exorcision of Emily Rose is very scary film!” - Paul, Athy

  • “The Blair Witch Project. Now I can't go outside alone when it's dark and I'm 24!”

  • “Blair Witch was maybe one of the scariest!” - Brendan

  • “Well Paula my girlfriend loves the Saw movies and I'm a big fan of the Predator and Alien films!” - Dan in Donegal

  • “Back when I was a little boy Jeepers Creepersscared the bejeepers out of me!”

  • “28 days later. Zombies are the ultimate scare-fest!”

  • “Hi Paula. Not all that scary, but the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) is the template for every horror film that followed!”

  • “Hi Paula, Dead Silence is another one - creepy as hell with ventriloquist dummies (plural!)” - Simon in Intel

  • “Paula - The Burning is a horror film from the early 80's, I think it was banned for a number of years but it's a proper old school horror - very, very scary film!” - Eddie (on me way to Galway)

  • “Morning Paula, I'm not one for horror films but having said that, one of my favourite films is Sleepy Hollow because it has some humour attached.” - Mick in Laois

  • “Morning Paula from a dreary and dark Wicklow. By far one of the creepiest horrors I've seen recently is the Australian film, The Babadook (still on Netflix I think) it's more about what you don't see that's the scariest part of it. Have a good day!” - Kevin

  • “Hi sweet pea What Lies Beneath - even more so when I thought I was going to see a rom com!”

  • “Hi Paula. Was supposed to go see IT at the weekend but my boyfriend showed me a trailer and I woke up with nightmares from the trailer!! I'm 27.. no way. Good luck with that!”

  • “Paula, don't forget about the other Steven King classic movies Carrie, Christine and Cujo. SCARY.” - Lorraine from Dundalk

  • “The Birds...actually, any Hitchcock film Paula. ARGH!”

  • “Oh my god I don't think I've ever gotten over The Ring, Paula! When she came out of the telly I was crying and begging for mercy. And the weird gross video!! I can't even think about it!” - Clare, Dublin 11
