They're on the rise in Ireland
Baby Showers are on the rise in Ireland with 40,000 taking place each year, a study has revealed. NONSENSE! Not the stats; the actual event itself. I couldn’t believe the amount of people who asked if I was having “a shower” when I was pregnant. Either I was stinkin’ or they meant a party, and the answer was NO. The cringe is just too much. Sitting around all sweaty and swollen with a huge bump, opening presents in front of people who had bought them. Kill me now. Also, it’s quite a greedy concept. Inviting people to bring you presents before the baby is born? No no no!
I’m not the only one who has some feeling about this – those who hate baby showers, really hate them. Those who love them, really love them:
- “Have you heard about the reveal party?! It’s a party where the parents open a letter in front of everyone, revealing the sex of their baby. When are people going to cop on?!” - Pat the milkman
- "American nonsense!
- “Paula, as a tag on to that gender reveal text: I can’t believe nobody loves the surprise of finding out the sex of the baby when they’re born anymore!” - Emma
- “Paula, a midwife actually started our scan appointment by advising she doesn't do the whole popping gender in an envelope for you to bring to a baker! So cringy!”
- “If it’s your first baby, baby showers are so lovely! It’s the biggest change that’s ever going to happen in your life and it’s so special. It often gives apprehensive mums a bit of a lift, especially in the lasy few weeks of pregnancy. It’s a nice, girly afternoon – what’s not to love?!”
- “I hated them until my best friend surprised me with one and I loved it! I felt so special!”
There, I said it; “Baby Showers” make me CRINGE 😷 #EarlyBreakfast @todayfm

And when they are thrown as a SURPRISE for the poor mother in question! Awful! The pressure to sit there and be grateful for the whole cringefest while everyone just stares at you! 🙈 I'm not even a mother but that type of situation fills me with dread! Have a great day Paula 🌻
