"Steve Staunton was my first babysitter"
When I asked the listeners of The Early Breakfast this morning what their Claim to Fame was, I definitely did not expect such a large and varied reaction - from Happy Birthday on The Den to famous babysitters... have a read of these:
- “Paula my cousin was the original drummer in Oasis, Tony McCarroll”
- “Paula I was on Happy Birthday on The Den back in the 90s!”
- “Got photographed drinking copious amounts of beer from a wheelbarrow. Made the front page of the student's newspaper. Aren't I a classy?!”
- “I have a signed Bosco photo and an Odd One Out hoody!”
- “Morning Sweet P! My claim to fame is that Tom Kettle is a cousin of my Grandfathers. He was killed in 1916 in the Battle of Somme!”
- “Hey Paula, while living in Dubai, my claim to fame is playing a practise match against former world number 1 Andy Murray!”
- “Hi Paula I'm cousins with X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary!”
- “Morning! My dad played for Kerry team in the 70s. They won an All Ireland in 1970 and dad was on the panel but didn't get a medal as back then all the panel didn't get medals. We’re still super proud of him though!”
- “Sweet-pea, my first babysitter was Steve Staunton. We lived beside them in Dundalk. My crying is what made him focus on his football and get away to Liverpool and from my crying!”
- “I know a fella that serviced Bono’s boiler. Beat that!”
- “Hi I was hijacked on an aeroplane flight in the 80s”
- “Hey Paula. My claim to fame is Taylor Schilling from orange is the new black is my second cousin.”
- “While working in London in 88 or 89 Paula Yates came in to the restaurant where I worked and asked me to hold her baby while she went to the loo.”
- “Good morning Paula, my dad who is sadly deceased now was the farm manager in Slane castle and at the first concert there, Thin Lizzy were head-lining and Phil Lynott sang Happy Birthday to him from the stage! Also, came home from work one night to find Adam Clayton in the sitting room having a drink with my parents! My brother was a huge fan he wouldn’t wake up, so he missed him. We also used to get down the night before the concerts to listen to the sound checks… fantastic times and memories!”
- “I was called to a hotel to do physio on a guest and it turned out to be Art Garfunkel. He asked me to be his physio on his tour but I couldn't go. I went on a date with Caroline Corr, had pints with Mick Jagger and lots more!” - Bob in Mullingar
- “Morning Paula. I used to be a waitress. I've waited on Hilary Clinton, Adam Sandler, Vince Vaughan, Chris O'Donnell, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, the Blind Side Family, and loads of NBA players.”
- “Morning Paula, had dinner with Sir Alex Ferguson & met Jimmy Nesbitt the same evening.”
