A female teenage customer in the Target chain store in the US was so taken by Alex's boyband good looks she took a snap and shared it. Then her friends shared it and before long the hashtag #Alexfromtarget went stratospheric and was trending worldwide on Twitter. He soon became an Internet sensation. From parody songs, impressions, appearances on TV. His Twitter followers increased from a few hundred to nearly 600K. He even got on Ellen.
