Urgent action is needed to ensure we don't see another death on our streets in the next couple of days.

That's according to Dublin's Inner City Helping Homeless whose spokesman Anthony Flynn says an extra 120 emergency beds are being made available for rough sleepers at the Capuchin Day Centre.

The centre has taken the unprecedented step of opening all night to provide shelter for those in need during Hurricane Ophelia.

They say the Government is showing more concern for animals than people.

Alan Bailey is the manager of the Capuchin Day Centre in Smithfield in Dublin, 'We're open since 7 o'clock, so far this morning we've over 100 people who have called in for breakfast. They'll stay here or the day today now during the bad weather.'

'It's a sad thing to see all the concerns for animals and farms but the homeless people don't get a mention at all.'

Meanwhile there is a joint effort between Focus Ireland and the Peter McVerry Trust to ensure the safety of all rough sleepers.

Anyone concerned or in need of help should contact 01 671 25 55, while donations are always needed and welcome.
