We Irish tend to make up words for things. We're slang aficionados, if you will.

Often, a lot of our expressions can be lost in translation - particularly with our transatlantic pals.

One word that we didn't expect to cause grief? 'Plasters'.

Yes, as in the thing you put over a cut.

Obviously, Americans call these something completely different - Band-Aids, after the brand.

And one American in particular showcased a strong objection to the word 'plaster' in a recent encounter with author Marian Keyes.

 

Marian felt pretty hard done by that we let them away with calling them Band-Aids, while they mocked us for calling them plasters.

The nerve.
