Refunds for customers who paid water charges are expected to get the go ahead when Cabinet returns today after the summer recess.
According to the Irish Examiner, homeowners will receive between 100 and 160 euro before the end of the year.
Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy is to seek approval from his colleagues later to allow for the move, which is set to cost around 300 million euro.
