The lads from The Chicken Fillet Roll Review are on a mission to find, review and rate the best chicken fillet rolls in the world.
They’ve travelled from New York to China but there's no surprise to learn that the best chicken fillet roll in the world can be found a little closer to home.
The Chicken Fillet Roll Review was started in early March 2017 and was started mainly because those in charge have, in the past, been annoyed by online food reviews.
They feel they are vague, uninformed and the articles are often filled with more pictures than words.
The guys behind the CFR Review say they write well informed reviews with heaps of detail on every deli and shop they review.
So where is the best chicken fillet roll?
According to the CFRR the current reigning, defending, and undisputed champion is Centra in Stoneybatter, Dublin.
However the Centra on Camden Street isn't half bad, as Dermot & Dave discovered when our anonymous reviewer presented them with their own CFRs in studio.
While the worst chicken fillet in the country can be found at Londis, Grafton Street, Dublin.
The CFR call it 'a sad disappointment, and an affront to the thousands of people and hours that dedicate themselves to the CFR craft every week.'
Harsh words lads.
The worst chicken fillet roll in the world was discovered in Singapore.
This is what a typical review looks like, be warned you'll need a chicken fillet roll the minute you read this.
SuperValu Sundrive Road
Spicy chicken
Stuffing
Sun dried tomatoes
Taco sauce
€5.00 (no add ons)
I slalomed through the vegetable aisle to make my way to the deli of the Sundrive SuperValu in Dublin. Today, much like the Manchester teams this summer, I was here to spend. And spend I bloody well did. €5 for a roll with two extra toppings seemed expensive but in the inflated market we're dealing in these days I couldn't really complain.
I went for the sun-dried tomatoes which have been disappointing in the past but much like Herr Klopp and Moreno, I stick with them in the hopes that they will eventually come good. The stuffing would provide the Moussa Dembele-like base of the fillings which would allow the taco sauce to wow with the skills of Christian Eriksen while the chicken would finish off the job, much like a certain Harold Kane.
Unconventionally this SuperValu opts for a large crispy roll rather than the traditional deli style demi-baguette. This buck against tradition would prove to be the downfall of the roll as the bread was as tough to break through as a Tony Pulis team playing four centre backs. The chicken, lost between the excess dough, was as non-existent as Wayne Rooney playing for Man United last year. The sun-dried tomatoes however were a surprising smash hit, much like Wayne Rooney playing Everton so far this year.
The stuffing indeed provide the base but was lacklustre. Similarly to opening a packet of Match Attacks, I hoped for N'Golo Kante, I got Glenn Whelan.
All in all this was a Fernando Torres of a roll. This deli had once done great things but to fail so miserably at that price is just sad.
