Most of us this year will be sweeping through the streets arms full of bags and then heading home to a warm house and the embrace of our friends and family.
Thousands will not. They will be cold and alone.
Ben Kealy and some of his friends got together to do something different this year.
Wanting to make a practical difference they made parcels to hand out to the homeless people living on the street of Dublin.
The parcel they gave out included practical items like biscuits, a hat, gloves, toothpaste and a toothbrush.
It's amazing to see what even the smallest gesture can do to lift human spirits.
