It's going to be a big year for this Limerick gang
Dermot and Dave love to support brilliant Irish music and this week's 'Homegrown Hero' is Limerick (and London's) own whenyoung.
The trio have just released a new single 'Future' from their highly anticipated debut album 'Reasons to Dream' which is out on May 24th. 'Future' tells the story of a close friend who sadly took their own life, while also striving to find a message of hope in the darkness.
Aoife Power, Niall Burns and Andrew Flood make up whenyoung and have known each other since they were teenagers in their native Limerick. Individually they played in different bands before relocating to London where they created whenyoung, inspired by a healthy mix of the music they all loved, their favourite classic cinema and literature.
Since then, they band have gone from strength to strength with nearly 300,000 monthly listens on Spotify, appearances at festivals everywhere from the Great Escape in Brighton to Reeperbahn in Germany and touring up and down the UK and Ireland. They were guests at Shane McGowen’s 60th birthday, Supported Nick Cave in Dublin and were invited to play at the Barbican centre in London as part of a celebration of Ireland’s rich cultural legacy.
This album is the culmination of years of playing and writing together and tells the story of their collective experiences of life since moving to London from the flats to the jobs and neighbourhoods.
2019 looks set to be an even bigger year for the band with the release of their debut album, their first American shows including shows at SouthbySouthwest and a whole host of other international shows.
