Supporting Brilliant Irish Music
Taken from LAOISE’s current EP ‘Mad’, the lead single showcases a more audacious side to the 22-year-old songwriter from Galway. The quirky track depicts the story of that moment in life when you decide to no longer accept a situation which you’re unhappy with; it's that moment of self-awareness where you let your gut instinct cut through, and let your voice be heard. LAOISE drew on past experiences of negative relationships- personal and professional – to present the fun but fierce lyric. Sonically, ‘Mad’ is a bed of pop hooks and lush backing vocals balanced with industrial synths sweeping throughout and a defiant build that centers on the song’s direct, simple but candid line: “And now I’m getting Mad.”
Speaking on the EP, LAOISE says, 'For me, this EP represents a destination I’ve spent some time trying to reach as a writer and a performer. A pop song that’s delivered with truth and with conviction will always connect more with me, and that’s what I’ve tried to create with each song on the EP, be it anger, defiance, heartbreak or love - a certain part of me is in each song. I’ve grown into a person who now feels that I can say what I need to in the moment, whereas in the past I was probably more afraid to be heard. Music has allowed me to filter the urgency of those thoughts into something useful and creative, and that’s this EP.'
LAOISE (pronounced Lee-sha) has built a growing listenership for her dreamy, ambitious and frank pop songs about relationships and heartbreak, often with darker, moodier, more introspective lyrics and juxtaposed with upbeat electro and synth production. LAOISE records, produces and releases her music completely independently. She’s become known for presenting her own brand of bold, glittering, gutsy electro-pop – paving the way for Irish-born pop music.
Taking her cues from the silky production of acts like Tove Styrke, Troye Sivan and MØ, LAOISE incorporates elements of synth, indie and alternative pop into her music. She is also is deeply inspired by household names like Kate Bush and David Bowie, as well as the different musical personas of Taylor Swift.
With this release, LAOISE presents four songs created with real intent which will infuse her live set with a determined but feel-good vibe this summer. LAOISE will be taking her new music to a number of 2019 festivals including Lollapalooza Berlin, Indiependence, Body & Soul (Main Stage) – and just announced today Kaleidoscope. More festival shows to be announced. She will also be joining Irish songstress Ruth-Anne as a special guest for her shows in Whelan's on April 27thand Cypress Avenue on April 28th. And is thrilled to be announced as the support for US streaming superstar Ella Vos in Dublin’s Academy 2 on May 13th.
